Expertise on GCast & Sendspace

GCast Logo

Gcast is a free podcasting site. It allows you to upload audio files and then play them in a player as well as embed the player into various personal sites such as Blogger, Xanga, and Myspace.

In order to upload anything to Gcast and create a player, you must first create an account.

After you create an account you can upload audio by clicking “Upload New Audio” on the left hand side of your screen.

You can then title your podcast by entering text into the text box net to “Title”

You can also offer a description of the audio in the player by entering text into the text box next to “Description”.

To upload new audio, click the “Browse” Button. Then find the audio file you wish to upload. The file must be an MP3 audio file playing at 44.1 kilohertz or the file will play at the wrong speed as per a disclaimer on the page. Gcast also asks for uploaded files to not infringe on copyrights by using copyrighted material.

After you have selected your audio file you can click one of two options “Automatically publish to Username’s Podcast” which is recommended, or “Save audio file to Master Playlist, I’ll publish it to my podcast later”.

If you choose to automatically publish the podcast, the audio file will be uploaded and published into a player immediately after it has uploaded. If you choose to Save the audio file first and publish it later, then you can publish it by clicking on Podcasting home on your Gcast account homepage. Then click “publish from your playlist” toward the bottom of your screen. You can then choose which audio file to publish by clicking to select the audio file, entering a subject, and a description for the file.

For different sites there are different ways to embed the player. All you have to do is click on “Love this Podcast? Add it to you blog or Myspace!”. Select the style player you wish to use, and then click your respective blog site instruction’s link at the bottom of the page. Copy the code provided in the text box under “Step 4: Add the player to your page” and then paste the code into wherever the instructions tell you to paste it.

Another site I like to use to upload files in order to have people download them is www.sendspace.com. Sendspace is a free upload site where you can upload files and download them by going to a download link and then clicking on the download button.

To upload files at this very easy to use site you click on the browse button on the front page under the Select File* (up to 300MB): text (this means you can only upload a file up to 300 megabytes without registering, which is still a considerable amount of data).

Once you’ve clicked browse, you simply browse for the file you wish to upload, click the select button, click the “I have read and agree to the terms of service” box, and wait for your upload to complete.

As soon as your upload is complete you will be given a set of links on a page that looks like this:

You can also select e-mails to which you wish to send the links to instead of posting them on a blog or on a myspace bulletin or if your desired recipient is more likely to check their e-mail by entering their e-mail address or your e-mail address in the given text boxes.

All in all its a great tool and I highly recommend it, happy uploading!
